With an outstanding raise in the general cargo, the Port of Guaymas is profiling in a strong step towards its expansion project and to be considerate one of the most important ports in the pacific ocean, at the end of the first semester this year the Port had operated 3 million 951 thousand 653 tons of different kinds of cargo, numbers that represent a 2% growing compared with the same period in 2013.

The multinational company Arcelor Mittal, leader in steel production, occupies a very important leadership in the economic growth of the State of Sonora, generating an important number of employments and distinguishing itself for handling 100% Sonoran mineral extracted from Tesopaco mines, the iron ore is moved to a concentrator located in Obregon city where is processed and cleaned generating 1200 employments at this first stage, after that is translated to the Port of Guaymas representing 600 jobs for the reception and loading the mineral to the ship that has as destination the Port of Lazaro Cardenas, Michoacan.

On the other hand Cemex, retakes the importation of Bauxite, Coke and Gypsum and the exportation of Clinker and Cement contributing with an important volume of cargo for the Port, standing out the arrival of ship Lady Maria Luisa this 2014, where is retaken the exportation of 58,507 tons of Baryta coming from Cobachi and going to Corpus Christy, Texas. Exceeding the cargo received in 2013 expecting to reach the 300 thousand tons at the end of the year. Mexicana de Cobre, Holcim and Cortez Transfer are important costumers for the Mexican industries that increase the operation efforts in the commercialization of the cargo with results.

In order to complement the service infrastructure of the Port, making team with big and important companies like MSC and TMM, is reinforced the operative handling of dry and refrigerated containers. The route Manzanillo- Mazatlan- Guaymas- La Paz- Manzanillo, allows to import, export or cabotage ship in a fast and efficient way every 10 days through a feeder ship that guarantees spaces with a capacity of 1,222 TEU’s.

In the dynamics of moving Mexico through the Port of Guaymas, the Port made an investment of 25 million of pesos in the acquisition of 4 warehouses and 2 traps in order to cover the mineral bulk operated in the Port, 2 industrial sweeping machines have been rehabilitated in order to keep the Port clean and 2 water pipes to keep the product wet, with an investment of 3 million pesos, and as an additional data of this units, they have been helpful serving the community through the firefighting station from Guaymas and Empalme at some emergencies.

By the previous and the imminent growing of the Port, we should generate the firm and sustainable development at the Port, foreseeing the conditions with responsibility and participation we could stablish the balance between economic growth and environmental care.

The Port of Guaymas, in its vision and according to the premises already exposed, have officially installed the job of the ecological and environmental subcommittee at the Port and as National forgoing for being the first one at its line so the assignees, service providers, civil society, organized commerce, the Municipal ecology Direction, Guaymas Social development and IMSS will have month by month, meetings where planning, executing and complying will be the law that rules in the regulation and continuous improvement process.
